Description
Chor Minor was built in 1807 with funds from Khalif Niyazkul, a wealthy Turkmen merchant, as the gatehouse of a madrasah that has since vanished. Each of its four corner towers carries a different decorative scheme — one popular reading says they represent the four world religions. Tucked away in a residential mahalla, the compact building has become one of the most photographed corners of Bukhara. Visitors can climb to the roof for a view over the surrounding old quarters.
