Description

The Ark is the oldest structure in Bukhara — archaeologists date its earliest foundations to the 4th–3rd centuries BC. Raised on an artificial mound, the citadel remained the seat of state power until the last emir, Alim Khan, was deposed in 1920. Inside are the Juma Mosque, the throne courtyard, the former mint and museum halls devoted to the history of the emirate. The platform by the western wall opens onto a wide view of Bolo-Hauz and the old town.
