Description
Bolo-Hauz Mosque was built in 1712 opposite the Ark, and the emir crossed the square to attend Friday prayers here. Twenty slender wooden columns crowned with muqarnas carving support its iwan; reflected in the pond in front, they appear to double into the famous "forty pillars". The painted ceilings, restored by Bukharan masters in the early 20th century, rank among the finest decorative woodwork in the city. The mosque is still in active use and free to visit.
