Description
The Modari Khan Madrasah was erected in 1566-1567 by Abdullah Khan II in honour of his mother — the name simply means "mother of the khan". Together with the larger Abdullah Khan Madrasah across the lane it forms a kosh, the characteristically Bukharan ensemble of two madrasahs facing each other. Its tiled portal inscriptions and modest, well-proportioned courtyard are typical of the period. Off the main tourist track, it offers a quiet glimpse of everyday old Bukhara.
