Description
The Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah of 1622-1623 is celebrated for the two mythical Humo birds flying toward a sun on its portal — figurative images are a great rarity in Islamic architecture. Legend says the building was actually begun as a caravanserai, but when the khan called it a madrasah at the opening ceremony, it was hastily refitted with cells and lecture rooms. Craft workshops occupy the hujras today, and in summer the courtyard hosts folklore evenings with music and dance.
