Description
Built in 1652 facing the Ulugh Beg Madrasah, the Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah set out to be twice as splendid as its older neighbour. Its portal breaks with convention, weaving in Chinese-influenced dragons, simurgh birds and even stylised faces among the arabesques. Inside, gilded ornament, muqarnas ceilings and polychrome tilework survive largely intact. Several hujras now house woodcarving workshops where masters work in view of visitors.
